Fall is my favorite season --- maybe because it evokes memories of my mom's kitchen ripe with smells of cinnamon apple pies baking in the oven, hearty chili simmering on the stove, and warm bread cooling on a wooden rack by the back door.  In the Midwest food always followed the seasons; it was a way of life when I was growing up, not a culinary trend.  My parents and all our neighbors had big gardens surrounded by apple, peach, and pear trees that filled up the back half of our acre-sized lots --- dwarfing the new red brick ranch-style homes that neatly gazed out on the long graveled lane just beyond the city limits.  

 

Today, 2000 miles from where I grew up, I still like to share my love of cool-weather comfort foods with my customers and friends.  I hope you'll give us a call and try our new Rich Autumn Pork Stew with apples, onion, and carrots over homemade egg noodles or our Potato & Yam Soup with Crispy Bacon & Spinach.  And if you have a sweet tooth like me, I recommend the Harvest Pumpkin Walnut Cake with Whipped Cream Cheese Frosting, Rustic Apple Gallette with Brandy Glaze, or Rich Croissant Bread Pudding.
